A new built 5-bedroom house makes the best of a South facing hilltop site with picture-framed views and open-plan living. Materials are mainly locally sourced and traditionally built, but with a contemporary twist. The house is terraced over three levels with the lower floor containing a swimming pool, gym and plant room.
The plan is built around 2 ovals intersecting at a 3rd oval at the geometric centre of the house and the central oval has a double-height open void with a timber-framed cone suspended from above. Through this passes a timber bridge on green oak beams, with a top lit skylight. The roof cantilevers out to support a cone, which hangs in the air. All the ceilings follow the roof-line, so that the geometry of the roof plane is visible throughout.
